Privacy Policy

This explains what information Meji Connect, operated by Meji Builds ("we", "us"), collects from Scouts and Clients, what we do with it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

1. Who This Applies To

This policy covers anyone who uses Meji Connect: Scouts who sign up to refer clients, Clients who submit a project brief (whether through a Scout's link or directly), and visitors to the public pages of the platform.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 If you're a Scout

Your name, email address, and phone number (phone is optional).
A password. We never store it in plain text, only a salted hash of it.
Your bank account details (bank name, account number, account name), if and when you add them to receive a payout.
Your referral code, and a record of the clients attributed to it and the commission it's earned.
Login timestamps, for security purposes.

2.2 If you're a Client

Your name, email address, phone number, and company name (where given).
The project brief you submit: a description of what you need, and any budget or timeline information you choose to share.
The messages you exchange with Meji Builds through your project's conversation.
A record of quotes sent, amounts agreed, and payments made toward your project.

2.3 Payment information

Card numbers, bank login credentials, and other payment credentials are entered directly with Paystack, our payment processor, and never pass through or get stored on Meji Connect. We only receive and store the outcome of a payment: whether it succeeded, the amount, the date, and a reference number, so we can keep your project and a Scout's commission accurate.

2.4 Technical information

Signing in sets a single session cookie (named mc_scout, mc_client, or mc_admin depending on your role). It's cryptographically signed, accessible only to our server, and used solely to keep you signed in for up to 30 days. It is never used for tracking or advertising, or shared with any third party. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising cookies anywhere on Meji Connect. Our servers and hosting provider incidentally log standard technical data (like IP address and request times) as any web service does, for security and reliability.

3. How We Use Your Information

To run the referral programme: tracking who introduced a client, and calculating commission accurately.
To operate your project: sending and receiving quotes, messages, and payment status.
To process payments and, for Scouts, to pay out commission to the bank account you provide.
To send you account-related emails: your portal link, a notification that you have a new message, or that a deal has closed. If our email provider isn't configured, these are shown on screen instead and nothing is lost.
To detect and prevent fraud or abuse of the referral programme, including self-referrals and duplicate claims.
To keep the financial records Meji Builds is legally required to retain.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. Our Legal Basis for Processing It

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, we process your information because it's necessary to perform our contract with you (running your project or your referral account), because we have a legitimate interest in preventing fraud and keeping accurate financial records, and, for optional communications, because you consent to them by using the platform.

5. Who We Share It With

We only share what's necessary, with these parties, for the purposes described above:

Paystack: to process a payment, we send it the amount, a reference, and your email. Paystack handles the payment itself under its own privacy policy.
Resend: our transactional email provider, if configured, receives the email address and name needed to deliver an account-related email.
Our database and hosting providers: the infrastructure that stores this data and runs the platform, bound to keep it secure and confidential.

We do not share your information with anyone else, and we never share a Client's project conversation or pricing with the Scout who referred them.

6. Where Your Data Is Stored

Meji Connect's database is hosted on cloud infrastructure that may be located outside Nigeria. Wherever it's stored, it's protected to the standard described in section 8, and only accessed for the purposes in this policy.

7. How Long We Keep It

We keep account and project information for as long as your account is active, and afterwards for as long as reasonably needed for financial record-keeping, tax, and legal purposes. Commission and payment records are kept as a permanent, append-only ledger. This is a deliberate design choice, so that every Scout's balance is always fully auditable and can't be selectively edited or deleted after the fact.

8. Security

Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text. All traffic to Meji Connect is encrypted in transit. Session cookies are signed and marked httpOnly, so they can't be read or tampered with by page scripts. Access to the studio console, where project and payment details are visible, is restricted to Meji Builds staff accounts.

9. Your Rights

Subject to the record-keeping obligations in section 7, you can ask us to:

Give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
Correct information that's inaccurate or out of date.
Delete your account and associated personal information.
Stop sending you non-essential communications.

To exercise any of these, email hello@mejibuilds.com. Note that we can't delete financial ledger entries tied to commission already paid or owed, since those are kept as required by law. We will, however, remove or anonymise personal details wherever we're not required to keep them.

10. Children's Privacy

Meji Connect is not directed at, and is not intended for use by, anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

11. Changes to This Policy

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll take reasonable steps to let active users know.
